Advertising Opportunities at the Kickstand

I've decided to accept advertising on the website in the form of banners. It looks like the site can bear four ad spots:

  • top leaderboard (above the comic)
  • bottom leaderboard (below the comic and comments)
  • "sticky note" to the right of the comic's masthead
  • comment banners (to the right of reader comments)

How the banners would appear on the site:

Stats (as of 07/2010) to help with an advertising decision

  • The comic has 7,500 daily readers, 12,000 weekly readers, and 30,000 monthly visitors (25,000 appear to 'stick around').
  • The comic receives 600,000 pageviews per month (150,000 per week, 21,500 per day).
  • Readers look at an average of five pages (one page = one comic strip) and usually spend around three minutes per visit.
  • 2,500 readers see the comic in their RSS feed reader (like iGoogle and NetVibes), where your ad could appear as well.
  • Monday and Tuesdays are the biggest traffic days, then the week trails out to Saturday before climbing again on Sunday.

CPM and pricing

I've looked into CPM pricing for advertisements. CPM stands for Cost Per Mille (Mille being the Latin word for 1,000) and is a phrase often used in online advertising and marketing related to web traffic. It is used for measuring the worth and cost of a specific e-marketing campaign (the cost of the advertising space divided by the traffic that the ad will receive). When used in advertising it relates to the cost per thousand page impressions. See the Wikipedia entry for more information.

Some details

  • I'd like for advertisers to make a monthly commitment, but weekly would be fine.
  • I can design the ads for businesses.
  • Ads are swapped out Sunday night and run through the week.
